ABOUT US
When our son Nicholas was a baby he began choking one afternoon during lunch. Fortunately because of my training as a nurse I knew what to do. After that day I kept thinking to myself, “I cannot believe that actually happened” and then, “What if he was with a babysitter, or my parents? Would they have known what to do?” Later that week I made a little booklet of first aid information to leave with my babysitters. Friends and family saw the booklet and asked for their own copies.
Luke and I never really planned to start a company but we recognized a need and felt like we should do something. So we took our personal booklet to the next level to meet the needs of other parents. His experience as an emergency medicine physician and my nursing background provided the medical knowledge required to create MEDBASICS®. Equally important was our joint experience as parents and our ability to know and understand the fears that come with that.
Over time that first booklet has evolved into an amazing line of products, each of which is defined by two simple ideas.

EASY TO USE AND UNDERSTANDWe know that to be truly useable during an emergency, the information we provide must be presented in a clear and easy to understand format. |
These two ideas are the filter through which we pass every design idea.
Because Luke and I are parents we really do understand how anxiety producing these situations can be. It’s scary to think about. It’s intimidating. But honestly, if a medical emergency occurs, parents and caregivers need to know what to do and need someone to help them through those panicked situations. That is why we created MEDBASICS®.

Luke is a MD, board certified in Emergency Medicine. He is currently on academic faculty at a major NY teaching hospital. |
